How the Wealth Score works

Each of eight markers earns up to 12.5 points. The benchmarks are common planning rules of thumb, not regulations:

  • Savings rate: full marks at 25% or more of take-home pay invested each month.
  • Emergency cushion: full marks at 6 months of essential expenses.
  • Debt load: full marks when EMIs are 20% of income or less; none at 50% or more.
  • Life cover: full marks at term cover of 10 times annual income.
  • Health cover: full marks at ₹10 lakh or more of family cover.
  • Wealth for your age: investments compared with a rough target of annual income × (age − 25) ÷ 3.
  • Paperwork: nominees on every account and a written will.
  • Clarity: written goals with amounts and dates.

A score is a starting point for a conversation, not a verdict. Families with dependants, business income or large upcoming goals may need different benchmarks.
